The James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy
EESI supports a variety of initiatives and events examining issues concerning societal effects on the environment with the James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy.  The programs are dedicated to lending a meaningful voice to domestic and foreign policy issues by bringing together scholars from academia and practitioners from the public and private sectors, including government, media, business, and non-governmental organizations in order to broaden professional perspective and personal understanding of all those involved in the study, formulation, execution, and criticism of public policy.

The Center for the Study of Environment & Society
Rice's Center for the Study of Environment & Society (CSES) promotes environmental literacy and sustainability on the Rice campus and beyond.  It coordinates curricula on environmental topics offered by Rice University in the schools of Engineering, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, and Humanities. The Center sponsors public lectures and colloquia and provides students with opportunities for environmental experiences as well as an index of career resources.  Rice has several programs designed to provide a strong interdisciplinary background in environmental studies to prepare students to pursue jobs as environmental professionals and/or to increase their own understanding of important environmental issues. The Center for the Study of Environment and Society coordinates the programs. The Center also sponsors The Environmental Reading Group (EREAD), a weekly faculty/staff/student lunch group for cross-disciplinary conversation about contemporary environmental writings.
